How to Decide Whether to Hire an Attorney

As my caseload increases, I become more and more impressed with the fact that there are many issues that could have been avoided if homeowners or home contractors were to hire an attorney before signing the contract. However, hiring a lawyer is not an inexpensive proposition, so one needs to evaluate the project before taking that step. In addition, as a project progresses, problems may arise, and then the same question may come up. The next few posts will discuss when to hire a lawyer, and when it may not be necessary

After having been very badly abused by several dishonest contractors and subcontractors on my home remodel, I strongly believe that a qualified attorney is the FIRST person anyone should hire PRIOR to starting any project. This attorney should review all contracts and ensure that the homeowner's best interests are always in the forefront of the agreement.
The homeowner is the Boss. Never forget this.
Too many contractors are only good con men who, once on your home site, will play 'street psychology' to control and manipulate the homeowner.
Make sure you are well prepared to overcome these games that will, almost always, get played out on some level.
